Yesterday's Lipstick
Saturday, Apr. 12, 2003, 11:03 p.m.

Question: Can a girl every have too many lipsticks?

What I Learned: Today's annoying ad is tomorrow's happy memory.

My comments about Yardley's Oh! de London perfume and cosmetics - their slicker ad campaign in particular - seems to have set off some serious retro waves of nostalgia among those who remember, or perhaps just remember reading about, seriously frosted lipsticks.

The main point here is this - there's frosted lipsticks and then - there's frosted lipsticks. These are the frosted lipsticks of the 60's and the world may never see the like of those gloriously pale lipshades that were so "mod" again. With that in mind here is a Yardley of London Slicker ad -

Isn't it glorious! What could we have been thinking?

Sit back and remember. Or kick back and imagine. Yeah, it did happen and some of us were there! Hopefully, I will never have to look that anemic again to be in fashion. Only time will tell. Fashion is after all, a mysterious and often inexplicable thing.

If you want more Monkee ads visit the Monkee Film & TV Vault where you'll find the Slicker ad and many more, including wav files. Can it get any better?
