Friday Five - Celebrities
Saturday, Apr. 19, 2003, 12:47 p.m.
Question: How did they do that?
What I Learned: I know a lot of celebrities but they don't know me.
1. Who is your favorite celebrity?
Lucille Ball (sadly now demised) - she's made me laugh since I was a little kid. Many summer morning were spent watching Lucy reruns. Even the theme music can make my blood pressure drop a few points.
Thanks to Nick at Nite, I was able to share Lucy with my kids and now we can drop in a DVD and see first season Lucy episodes any time day or night.
Lucy, I'm home!
2. Who is your least favorite?
Michael Moore - He needs to contact Miss Manners immediately.
3. Have you ever met or seen any celebrities in real life?
My son met Verne Troyer - aka Mini Me. He got his autograph too. Does that count?
Last year, my daughter and I were in L.A. and stumbled upon the Osbourne's house - it was pretty exciting. Especially when the gate began to slowly open and the gardener eventually emerged dragging a big garbage can behind him. Now that's being close to fame.
You can tour their house too and see a lot more than we did by taking the virtual house tour.
4. Would you want to be famous? Why or why not?
I would not want to be famous in the sense of being a highly visible movie star or singer. Fame comes with a high price for many celebrities. Look what happened to that poor Michael Jackson - one day he's moonwalking across the stage and years later, he's dangling some little kid with a diaper draped atop its head over some 4th story balcony in Germany. And how many life changes should one person have to suffer though - witness Madonna. One day shes wearing pointy bras you could stab someone with and the next shes carting around the Kaballah and getting mendhi tattoos. I think she should have stuck with the material girl thing - but that's just me. Also, I want to have a last name - even Cher must get sick of everyone calling her by her first name all the time. Liz Taylor was famous and she had two names and come to think of it, so did Katherine Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Personally, I don't want to see a tombstone in some Hollywood memorial park with a single name on it unless it is the final resting place of a beloved tinseltown dog or cat.
5. If you had to trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why?
It depends upon the day
- Monday To kick off the week how about Sharon Osbourne she rules the roost and says what she thinks
- Tuesday Put it into gear with Oprah Winfrey - sometimes ambition and empire-building can be fun
- Wednesday Be poetic with Maya Angelou she writes beautiful words and made writing poetry pay
- Thursday Get the male point of view with Mel Gibson hes got it all
- Friday - Have fun with Bette Midler she has her own kind of beauty and knows how to engage an audience
- Saturday- Have you dreams come true with Cinderella shes a good girl and she gets her man
- Sunday - Think spiritual with Mother Angelica she starting a TV network from $12 and shes a nun
