Recipe for Quick Batch of Good-and-Tired
Monday, Dec. 01, 2003, 7:26 p.m.

QUESTION: What kind of recipe is this?

WHAT I LEARNED: Some kids never outgrow chewable Tylenol.

Do you ever have one of those tired-for-good-reason streaks? I think I am in one right now. My formula is:

  • One husband at home recuperating from surgery;
  • One daughter with a 102.2 degree temperature;
  • One hour of high school world history review with son who discovers 3 page worksheet on the Sunday night of a 4 day holiday weekend that is due to be turned in on Monday;
  • Four hours sleep maximum;
  • One daughter with temperature holding steady home from school;
  • One service hours verification document due at daughter's school even though said daughter is home sick;
  • One drive to school to hand-delivered document to school;
  • One doctor's appointment for family member with extended waiting room time required;
  • One kid requiring pick up from school;
  • One order of chinese food delivered to our house with half of my order missing.
  • One visit to the grocery store to pick up meds, chicken, ice cream and other sick-at-home basics;

Stir well. Sprinkle liberally with emails, reports, and other work tasks - isn't the ability to work from home a super concept? Take daughter's temperature again. Sprawl on sofa beside her. Hope son doesn't have surprise homework requirements ready to spring on mom for the post-10 PM hour. Thank God in heaven for cable TV, warm blankets, wonton soup, and digital thermometers.
