Mom in Hospital
Wednesday, Dec. 08, 2004, 12:22 a.m.

What a shock.

My mom had a stroke yesterday.

She went to the emergency room yesterday morning and was in the hospital overnight but is now back home. This came as a big surprise to all of us because she is a very health concious person and takes good care of herself. She's in better shape than I am and looks so young that all the nurses could say is - I can't believe you're 73. That's kind of funny considering she was sitting there waiting to find out if she had really had a stroke or if something else was wrong.

My mom suffers from violent migraines and was into her sixth day of a particularly bad migraine episode when she started having vision problems that scared her enough to finally get her to go to the hospital. I knew things must have been bad to get my mom to head out to the emergency room with my dad. She'd probably rather stop by one of the 7 circles of hell then go to the hospital.

She got a lot of testing done yesterday and today including a CAT scan. I think she was pretty impressed with the new hospital technology - like beds that shift you around all night long - and she had a good nurse and tech on the night shift and that made her feel better about having to stay overnight.

The CAT scan - the last of the tests - did show that she did have a stroke. I don't know what's next now that we know this for sure.

She is back home tonight and I am waiting to hear more about what is going on now that the diagnosis has been made.

Please keep my mom in your prayers.
