Mother's Day 2005

QUESTION: Did you hug your mother?
WHAT I LEARNED: Mothers - they're huggable.
It's Mother's Day!
All year long mothers are doing wonderful things and they are doing them without fanfare or daily applause from their families. Mothers make amazing use of time and energy and creativity. Mothers give. They can't help it. They give of themselves in a thousand different ways. They give a much needed hug. They speak those words of encouragement. They read that story, play that game, watch that show, for the millionth time because you want to read it, play it, watch it. Mothers take you to buy the supplies for the report you forgot about until Sunday night, buy you the outfit you just have to have that means she won't get something she'd like for herself, prepare the sandwich you could make yourself but you say taste better when she makes it. Mothers listen to your stories instead of making you listen to theirs. Mothers cut you a break when dads don't. Moms pick you up from the movies when they really are too tired to do it. They make holidays festive and remember birthdays. They think about you everyday. They don't always get it right all the time. Who does? They great thing about mothers is that they'd like to get it right all the time.
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. I hope you have a day of leisure and a little of other people's time, energy, and creativity on this special Sunday.
