First Days of January

QUESTION: January mood?
WHAT I LEARNED: Don't take your eyes off the to-do list.
Suburban Island posts on thespark in response to the question: So tell me some impressions of your first day in January.
My first days of the year were consumed with a project that I had to do for work that I hadnt realized had such an early deadline. It was a real disappointment since I had been on a long vacation from work and really wanted to savor my last few days of freedom. I felt kind of cheated but I could have organized myself around the task better so it was really my fault.
It did allow me to romanticize my last few days of leave, however. This was a happy and unexpected benefit to my procrastination. How tragic - I thought - to loss all that special family time. The movies we could have seen. The walks we might have taken. The afternoon shopping adventures we could have enjoyed. The nice dinners out we could have eaten as one big happy family. Who am I kidding? In reality, the last weekend before re-entry to work and school would have been littered with TV watching, chores for all, nobody on the same schedule, and lots of leftovers, laundry, and last minute homework.
I still dont feel like I have quite re-entered the post-holiday spirit of January. Maybe it is only that I am still tired for the demands of December. Maybe it is just that it is never easy to go back to work after a nice long time away. However, I have pulled out my to-do list again so I guess the party is now officially over.
