aw damnit, now I'm crying. Pets are family. I get mad at my cats but I love them. Dogs are even more special in a lot of ways. Poor guy! So sad.

Some of the best dogs I knew were the dogs at the shelter. I still remember the names of a lot of the more interesting ones.

God, don't you just hate that? I STILL miss my dog and it was two Christmases ago that I put her to sleep. Poor little girl had cancer. It's just the worst to lose such happy, loving creatures.

Aww.. that is terrible. I know how hard it is. I am sitting here bawling now, too.

The loss of a wonderful pet is heartbreaking. Please give my regards to the family - and thank you for writing such a poignant and touching entry.

My heart is aching for your friend. A little piece of our soul goes with our pets when they cross the Rainbow Bridge. So, so sad.

We had the same thing at work - two people both lost their companions this past month.. I feel so bad for them -pets become such a part of our lives.. I hope your friend gets another pet soon to fill the void that is there now..

I am sitting here at work crying and no one can figure out why. I think everyone has gone through this tragedy in some form. Mine was Rambo, he was a doberman-rott and I miss him dearly.

I teared up when I read this. It's so hard to lose a loved pet. They're family.

It's always so difficult to lose a companion, whether they be human family or friends or the four-legged variety. Dogs and cats, especially, become an integral part of our life. And you're right - no doubt your friend will obtain another pet and cherish the new companion. But there will never be another Jesse in that home.

That's sad to hear. Hope your friend feels better. Losing a companion is very hard.

I totally understand how your friend feels. Even when my pet hamsters die, it will make me sad too...
