Hey, you're not supposed to write such discouraging things for a mother of a three year old to read! I don't need to hear that! *sigh* I do think that very disrespectful of your son.

I am not sure he means to be disrespectful. I think his attention is focused on other more wonderful things than the mundane realities of the household chore.

We always did chores when we were kids, up until we moved out. By "we" I mean, "me" and I still do them when I visit my parents. You could bounce a quarter off of my bed or eat off my floor. It's question of priority really - you spend time getting to know your kids. My mother spent time cleaning the house. Nothing pisses her off more than leaving a dish in the sink - it's right next to the dishwasher, that really enrages her.

When my kids were small, I would stay up all night long one night a week to do the "deep cleaning" that I couldn't get accomplished while they were underfoot. I understand exactly where you are coming from, because at least when they were young I had a little bit of control over what they did and when they did it. These days, it is impossible to ever get anything done, because they wander in and out of the house at all hours (every one of us work different shifts), wander aimlessly around the house when they are home, and the laundry and ironing has tripled if not quadrupled since everyone has jobs and there are at least two changes of clothes per person a day. However, my kids do know the "mom is cleaning and you better stay away from her if you value your life" look...which SOMETIMES buys me enough time to get a few things accomplished. So...here I sit complaining, and in two years I will not have anyone at home to interfere with my need for cleanliness and organization...and it makes me kind of sad. I'll have a clean, empty house. I always wondered if I would have had more help around the house if I had had girls instead of boys.

This too shall pass ... and we will be so sad because they'll be all grown up with families who don't pick up after themselves. Okay so make that, we will be so smug, but we'll miss them anyway!
