I agree with you about the curfew thing. When I came home after my first year of school, I assumed I had no curfew since this was the first summer I really went out a lot. After two weeks of coming home at five am, my parents finally decreed that coming in at 2 would be much more reasonable (consider I also get up for work at 7 every weekday). After much frustration and tears, we came to an agreement. And it's worked out fine.

I never had a curfew, which led me to never break it. I was always home at a reasonable time, but I remember one time when I came in at about 1:45 (I believe I was 17...) and my mom was standing by the door waiting for me and told me I better never do that again. I didn't- I was a good kid. By the time I had turned 18 I had already smoked for a period of a few weeks and decided that it wasn't really for me. So, on my 18th birthday I went to a casino and spent $5 and I got my ear pierced in my cartilage. Woohoo, way to celebrate!

Ahh...18! That's when the drama and conflict *really* begins. I don't think my father ever laid a curfew on me when I was 18 (I had too much on him for him to even try it)...I won't get into what justifiably made him angry on a few occasions...Your daughter seems to be a much better kid than I was...

I'm dreading the need to give my daughters curfews (my oldest is 10). I never had one, but I know that I kept my wife out way past hers several times when we were dating...

good ol age 18, though mine wasn't particularly special except for a few gags and laughs. I never had a curfew, unless I wasn't able to get home from where I was. ^^;; Going to Boston must've been great for both of you. Boy you did a LOT more than I did when I visited Boston. Anyway Happy Birthday to your daughter!
