Hey, at least your kids do something with you. It's good that you do the best with what you have, my parents used to drag us unwillingly across the world to do things they thought were fun and it would be hell on Earth for all involved. Now, in MY old age of 25 I've learned that spending time with my parents is the hard thing to do. I took a job working for my mother so I could see her more often and willingly do dishes to spend more time with Dad. What can you do?

So much fun to look forward to! I'm still having fun changing diarrhea diapers, soothing scraped knees.... the easy stuff. I guess God breaks you in gently..... You made me smile and laugh.

Diareah? Oy! I added you as a favorite on my fotolog because you're one of two people I know with one.

I'm glad you understand how teenagers think...I wish mine did...Instead they force me to do things with them that I absolutly hate, yet I don't have the courage to tell them how much I want to be alone or with my friends sometimes. But don't get me wrong, I still love and appreciate them no matter what.

You nailed it, Sunnflower! Life with teens is a constant exercise in self control! So glad to hear your teens like exactly the same activities mine do--mostly NOT involving parents. Ashley, hon, we feel your pain. But parents do weird things in the line of duty--and one of our duties is to drag you around with us so we get to enjoy your company. Teens are ours for way too short a time!

I think you are giving teens a bad rep. I am eighteen and spend most of my time trying to find a way to spend more time with my mom. She works nights and overtime. I go to school during the day so I spend most of my little free time with her. So theirs your answer. Become unavailable and THEY will try to spend time with YOU.

Dewshine has an interesting theory but I don't know if I have the energy for it, Christopher provides some hope of some eventual help with the dishes, Susan reminds me of kids past the scraped knee phase, and Anita makes me feel like I am not alone. Excellent comments all around - thanks!

thanks for the birthday wishes. its strange how, now that i'm older, i appreciate the time i get to spend with my parents. i hardly ever get to see my mother unless i catch her on a weekend at home but i do get to see my dad a lot. we spend a lot of mondays together because its his day off as well as mine. and i have to admit, as much as i hated them when i was younger, they gave me the world, literally. many of my friends here haven't really gotten to visit places outside of our region. my parents made sure we were well traveled. it was one of the most invaluable things they could have given me: realizing that not everyone is just like you and your neighbors. xoxo

I swear on all that I hold dear that I will not forget my sunglasses, I will do my best to remember them!
