I tell all my diaryland friends to read Suburban Island because I find you and your family inspriational. I hope I have kids like yours in my class this year equiped with Moms like you (I'm sure that man of yours is equally wonderful). I hope if my baby falls out of a tree it lands in YOUR yard.

The interamanet is a wonderful thing, eh? I mean 'orphaned baby squirrel minders' isn't a category in the yellow pages. And I checked. Fair play to you.

Wow! A compliment from one of the cool kids on the block. I'm moving up in the world.

What a great story! Those squirrels look so tiny and cute - I'm glad you were able to give them a happy ending. (And I am still laughing about your "What would squirrelx do?" reaction!)

Just for the record, I would like to say that I took the picture of the cute baby squirrels myself but I dropped the damn digital camera in the sand at the beach and need to get it repaired. The little baby squirrels looked just like the ones in this wonderful picture from www.stfranciswildlife.org! And the St Francis Wildlife site has great info on caring for orphaned baby squirrels as well.

You are a woman (and family) deserving of praise. I would hope I would react as well as you and your son did. . .I'm afraid I'd be more of the "eeewwwwww!" wimpy style. After your example, I am vowing to be brave if I should have a similar experience. And beginning now, I will pray pleeeeeeaase do not put me in that situation! haha! Seriously, you and your son did a great thing.

Hooray for you. I would have done the same thing.

My dad was always bringing little baby rabbits and possums home for care. I'm glad you could help the little tykes...and that they were less agile than mice. :) kd

Thanks for taking care of the babies. The picture is too sweet. I {{love}} people who do animal rescue, they are very special in my eyes. Extra love for your teenage son.

How sweet! Hopefully the little ones will both be fine. I don't have a rep as an animal rescuer, but I am a firm believer that we are entrusted with the care of animals by God Himself, and charged to care for them humanely.

i feel great for reading your story. I found a baby squirrel today! It is older than your pair (about 4 weeks we think). My daughter is surrogate mum at the moment and doing a grand job. We have such good feelings about doing "our bit" towards the wildlife survival and it is great to help something so dependant and helpless. Lynn
