Blue Screen Blues
Monday, Mar. 22, 2004, 8:51 p.m.

QUESTION: Why didn't I just go to bed?

WHAT I LEARNED: Pay attention to signs - especially electronic ones.

I've had a bad weekend. Technology is the devil. My computer was laid low this weekend as I was happily sipping a glass of wine and working away on a project for the office. Suddenly my computer seemed to stop in its tracks. Next thing you know - blue screen of death. I can't function without my laptop. It's like the Louis Vuitton handbag that Jessica Simpson carries around like an expensive little lapdog. Indeed, it is every bit like Paris Hilton's darling little Tinkerbell. For just like Jessica and Paris, I carry my darling pet about with me - upstairs and down, to work and back again. Alright - it's a laptop but we are very close.

And now, we are parted. My laptop is up in the air - on a flight home to the mothership and some electronic chicken soup. I'm told it will be as right as rain and back to me by Wednesday or Thursday. I hope my laptop knows how much I miss it.

I did breath a small sigh of relief when I found out that it wasn't my fault that my dear laptop was ailing. It seems a virus swept through a few of the laptops remotely hooked up to our company's network. It's fixed now. Not in time for me and a downcast group of other unfortunates. Others were luckier than our sad little group.

I should have known when the DSL was out on Friday night that it was a sign from above to give it a break. Instead, I crawled around on the floor, moving furniture, and talking to myself until I got it working again. So that I could get online, and fry my computer.

God is going to have to start using a megaphone when he talks to me because I never get the subtle hints.
