While in Georgia Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, 1:05 a.m.
QUESTION: What would Florence Nightengale Do?
WHAT I LEARNED: I could never have worked for Mother Theresa.
I couldn't help but make note of a few things today as I visit here in Georgia with my best friend, who is recovering from surgery -
- It's pretty damn hot in Georgia,
- I could never be a nurse,
- Sometimes you have to be a nurse anyway,
- I admire nurses - a lot,
- One perk of being a member of a church is that people will bake things for you when you are sick,
- Most of these ready-to-go meals will be surprisingly good and you will always be able to count on the desserts,
- Some people think that supermarket diet cola and Diet Coke are the same and will bring the supermarket diet colas home because these sodas are on sale and they are trying to be helpful,
- That person will have to drive you to the market and hang around while you buy real Diet Coke,
- I will always forget to pack something that for some reason, I will only be able to buy in a large bottle while traveling - like shampoo, conditioner, hair gel, hand lotion, or toothpaste,
- That large bottle or tube will be the bottle or tube that leaks all over the stuff in my suitcase on the trip home,
- I will always buy a book at the airport even though I brought one with me,
- I can always find The National Enquirer at the airport news shop,
- People will call me with problems I can't solve as soon as I arrive at my travel destination,
- Georgia has Starbuck's and Waffle Houses,
- Make sure you specific unsweetened when ordering iced tea in the South.
Goodnight, from Atlanta.
